MINISTRIES BEYOND OUR PARISH


The parish office is always a good initial point of contact to learn more about our various church ministries and how you can get involved.  Below are brief descriptions of ministries within our parish, along with contact information.

ACCESS AIDS CARE COOK-IN

On the third Sunday of the month, six months of the year, parishioners and others from the community gather at St. Andrews to prepare meals for families affected by HIV/AIDS. Contact Llew Roberts at 423-6310.

AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE
St. Andrew's participates with other Ghent-area churches in hosting a bi-monthly blood drive on a rotating schedule. Contact Deane Sobol at 446-7288.

CATHOLIC WORKER SANDWICH MINISTRY
On the fourth Friday of each month, parishioners make and drop off sandwiches for distribution to those who receive food from the Norfolk Catholic Worker. Contact Robin Kruger at 470-9882.

FLOWER FESTIVAL
On All Saints weekend each year, St. Andrew's celebrates a community festival featuring food, arts, crafts,clothing, and household boutiques, and fine choral and instrumental music. The highlight of the weekend is the sanctuary adorned beautifully with thousands of flowers. Contact Amber Pickrell at 627-9258 or Steve Batten at 545-2640.

MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Each year we devote 0.7% of our church budget to international projects in line with the Millennium Development Goals. Last year we supported school children in Ghana and Belize and a Sudanese refugee camp in Kenya. Contact Betty Wade Coyle at 625-3182.

MISSION AND MINISTRY COMMITTEE
This committee oversees our outreach ministry in the community and also determines grant support for local organizations such as Ghent Area Ministries, ForKIDS, the Lost Boys Foundation, Camp Wakonda, and more. Contact Betty Wade Coyle at 625-3182.

NORFOLK EMERGENCY SHELTER TEAM (N.E.S.T.)
N.E.S.T. is a collaboration of local churches that take turns providing a week of overnight shelter to 50 - 60 homeless men and women. St. Andrew's typically hosts two weeks each year. Contact Jim Rhodes at 627-5980 or George Utter at 686-3705.

SOCIAL JUSTICE AND ADVOCACY
Parishioners participate in nonpartisan advocacy efforts through the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public policy, Bread for the World, and other organizations. Contact Pat Hodge at 622-1429.
